B&G Club to host fundraising banquet

The Winston County Boys and Girls Club will host a Summer Fun Banquet July 17 in Louisville.

Chief Officer of the Boys and Girls Club, Larry Dickens, has been very pleased with the children of the club and the support that the club receives from the community. The club has its second summer program in full swing with over 70 children enrolled.

"Stop by and see what your hard work and support is doing daily in the lives of hundreds of children," stated Dickens.

Christopher Epps, Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, will be the featured speaker.

Commissioner Epps, a native of Tchula, MS, graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia with a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi Valley State University. Commissioner Epps started his career with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) in 1982 as a correctional officer at the Mississippi State Penitentiary.

Commissioner Epps has had a variety of experience with the MDOC, as well as the army, and has received many honors. The club feels that he will bring a lot to the table as a guest speaker.

Along with having Epps speak to the crowd, Aline Haynes will be preparing a full meal for the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club on Ivy Avenue.

Tickets are on sale for the event at the club or Cournoyer office supply or any club board member. Club members and club staff are also selling $5 chances on winning a 31-inch flat screen television. The drawing for the television will be held the night of the banquet. Admission for the event is $20 and is open to the public. All proceeds will go to the Winston County Boys and Girls Club. Donations will also be accepted for the club.

The club is also seeking volunteers and dedicated board members.

"Even though it is great for us to be completing our second year, we must continue to work harder to develop an even stronger program for our boys and girls. More and more kids are becoming interested day by day because of our members sharing the great work that our staff and volunteers are doing," stated Dickens.

For more information on the event, or if anyone interested in volunteering or playing a role in the club should contact Dickens at the Club's facility at 203 Ivy Avenue and call at 662-799-4141.
