Louisville aldermen discuss properties and other matters

The Louisville Board of Aldermen covered a small variety of city business Oct. 20.

First on the board's agenda included two properties found to be unsafe and unclean. The board approved to have the two properties removed from the unclean and unsafe properties after owners of the properties addressed the problems. Board members also requested city engineer Kenny Morris examine several other properties to ascertain if the properties meet the unclean, unsafe ordinances.

Next up, the board discussed the uncollected city taxes list for some businesses. City Clerk Babs Fulton noted that the city continues to try to collect and that it was ongoing process. She added that several usually pay prior to year end.

The board also discussed the county's first responders initiative and how the program would affect E-911. The board table future discussion until the county adopted resolution could be fully examined

In other matters, the board:

¥ Approved LPD Chief L.M. Claiborne to attend a Safe Streets DUI grant awards program.

¥ Approved Chief Claiborne to attend the MS Association of Chiefs conference.

¥ Approved an LPD officer to attend Regional Counter Drug Training Academy.

¥ Approved LFD Chief Mike Stevenson to attend the Mid Winter Fire Chief's conference.

¥ Amended the contract to open and close graves at the city cemeteries.

¥ Discussed measure and a policy amendment to help collect on burial fees at city cemeteries. "This will help address any misunderstandings of what the full cost is," said Jody Fulton, director of Parks and Recreation. Further discussion and approval of the amendment were tabled for the aldermen to review until next regular meeting.

¥ Approved advertising of bids for the South Church Street project.

¥ Approved advertising for bids on fixed assets the city no longer needs.

¥ Held an executive session on a personnel matter.

¥ Discussed a policy encouraging vendors for the city to submit billing in a timely manner and within 90 days,

The next regular board meeting is set for Nov. 3.
