Friends of Legion to meet
The third Quarterly meeting of the Friends of Legion State park will be held on Thursday, August 27 at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to attend. Daryl Jones, who is the associate professor of Wildlife at MSU will be speaking. He is a very innovative speaker. The group is working toward establishing a bird sanctuary and extending trails at the park. The public is cordially invited. Light refreshments will be served. Please come and help keep the park alive and well.
Book sale set
The Friends of the Winston County Library will hold a used books sale at the library on Thursday through Saturday, August 27-29. The sale will be during library hours except Thursday when it will be all day! All types of books will be offered at bargain prices. If you have any books to donate, please bring them to the library between now and the sale.
Summer Fun Festival August 29
Friends of Dean Park are hosting a "Summer Fun Festival" at Dean Park on August 29 from 1pm until 7pm. The public is invited to enjoy the activities that will include sports challenges, children games, entertainment and the sale of food and beverages.
Funds raised will be used to update the playground and the outdated equipment. Please help in this effort. For more information contact Claudell Weaver at 773-9414 or Elmetra Patterson at 779-0169.
Bluegrass singingset
There will be a Bluegrass Gospel Singing at New Zion Baptist Church featuring Alan Sibley & The Magnolia Ramblers on Sunday, August 30 at 11 a.m. New Zion Baptist Church is located at the intersection of Weir-Salem Rd. and South Union Rd. west of Ackerman. After School Tutoring offered
Louisville Community Services, Inc. (LCS) is accepting registrations for tutoring through its After School Assistance Program (ASAP), located at 320 North Church Avenue. This assistance is available for students (K-12), in all academic subjects, beginning on August 31. The ASAP will offer tutoring sessions on Monday - Thursday, 3:00 -6:30 p.m., and each session will last 1 1/2 hours. A substantial snack will be served each day.
Parents and/or guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible. Please do not wait until your child is having problems in a class before seeking assistance for him or her.
LCS is also soliciting persons to volunteer as tutors or tutor assistants. Further information regarding tutoring or volunteering is available by calling 662/736-2994.
REPM to meet
The next REPM meeting is set for 9-03-09 in Louisville City Hall at1 PM featuring speakers: Senator Giles Ward and Representative Russ Ward and Nowell will update on the legislature.
Southern Gospel Singing
East Louisville Baptist Church, located at 610 East Main, welcome the Freedomland Quartet. This Southern Gospel group will be singing on Sunday, September 6, 2009 beginning at 1:30 pm. The public is invited to come and enjoy. A love offering will be received. For more info call 662-773-3683.
Women's Day Set
Wesley United Methodist Church will hold its Annual Women's Day Program on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 3:00 pm. Guest speaker for this occasion is the First Lady of Wesley, Mrs. Lavetia Morris. The public is invited.
Caperton reunion set
The descendants of Samuel Henry and Sarah Frances Ball Caperton will hold their reunion on September 6 at J.W. Young/Mollie Estes Park in Noxapater. All branches of the family are urged to attend. Potluck lunch at noon.
Revival set
Indian Springs Assembly of God will be in revival services September 6-10. Service times are Sunday 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m. Guest evangelist will be Rev. Matthew Gros of Schriever, LA. There will be special singing each night. The congregation and Pastor Franklin Smith invite you to attend. The church is located at the intersection of Hwy. 25 and Mt. Calvary Church Rd., 12 miles south of Louisville or 6 miles north of Hwy. 19.
The Friends of Noxubee Refuge will hold - Fun with plants - Saturday, September 5
Dr. John Guyton, with the MSU Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries, will offer and
share a plethora of uses, fun facts and interesting tidbits about plants. Dr.
Guyton is on a quest for useful and fun facts about plants, stating he believes
this knowledge is key to engaging youth and adults in the outdoors.

Goodin Reunion
The annual Goodin Reunion will be held September 6, 2009 at Burnside Park Building. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Please bring a covered dish.
M&I to hold registration

AARP to meet
Winston County Area AARP Chapter #2895 will hold their September 9, 2009 meeting at 996 D.B. Williamson Rd. at 12:00 noon. Members are asked to please bring a covered dish, and enjoy.
Rives reunion set
Annual Rives Reunion of all family and friends will be held September 20 at Betheaden Community center (old Betheden school) at 10:00 a.m. Come bring a dish and enjoy food and fellowship.
Tummy Safe Class
On September 22, 2009 a Tummy Safe Class of Childcare Providers will be held at the Winston County Extension Office at 9:00 am. Exam will be at 3:00 pm. Registration is due by September 8 - limited to first 20 persons. For more information call, 662-773-3091.
Revival at FUMC
The Louisville First United Methodist Church invites everyone to a revival held Sunday through Wednesday night, September 27-30 at 7:00 pm nightly. A covered dish supper will be Sunday night at 6:00. There will be a light lunch and service Monday through Wednesday from 12 noon until 12:45. The minister will be Rev. Bryan Collier of the Orchard United Methodist Church in Tupelo, the largest and fastest growing Methodist Church in Mississippi. All are invited to attend.
Managing Wild Hog Damage Workshop
The public is invited to attend a "Managing Wild Hog Damage in Central MS" workshop that will be held October 29, 2009 at the Attala County Coliseum in Kosciusko from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Topics that will be discussed include wild hog history, biology and ecology, feral swine diseases, parasites, and potential implications to human and domestic livestock, wild hog trapping techniques, trap designs, removal methods, and law governing removal of animals. Doors of Hope seeks volunteers
Doors of Hope Center is looking for volunteers to help prepare food boxes from the Food Pantry. They are also looking for a person or persons that are willing to take care of mail that is coming in and going out. If you are interested please call the center at 662-779-2722.

Habitat for Humanity seeks donations
Winston County Habitat for Humanity has joined the Cars for Homes program. Donors can call toll free number, 1-877-277-HFHI (4344), or visit www.carsforhomes.org. to donate cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles, farm equipment, airplanes or other motorized vehicles - running or not. You can be environmentally responsible while your tax-deductible vehicle donation can help a family build a home and the hope of a better life right here in Winston County.
