The registration deadline for the Winston County Youth Association baseball and softball leagues is this weekend. There will be last minute sign-up on Saturday February 23, from 12:00-3:00pm at the Louisville Coliseum. Please bring a photocopy of your child's original birth certificate when you register to verify their age. Also during this time, the WCYA will host a celebration in the Coliseum for the kids who have registered this year. For more information, call Angela at 601-562-3238.

Blood Drive set

The Health and Wellness Committee at Georgia Pacific will hold a blood drive at this Friday, Febraury 22 at the plants front gates. The public is invited to come by and donate after 3 p.m. Anyone with questions may contact Byron Palmertree at 662-779-1237.

Pastor appreciation program to be held

A "Just because you are loved" fellowship will be held for Pastor Robert Goss, Jr., Pastor Robert Avant, and Minister George Mallard at 5:30 p.m., February 23, 2008 at the Union Hall on highway 397. A $5 donation is requested for everyone over 10 years of age. There will also be a dance for the youth from 8 p.m.-10p.m. Casual attire excluding jeans.

Indian Springs

to host dinner

Indian Springs Assembly of God will be serving a Ribeye Steak Supper Saturday, February 23 beginning at 5 p.m. Steak plates will be $12 and chicken strip plates will be $7. Take-out plates will be available. Come and join the congregation for food and fellowship. The church is located on Hwy. 25, 12 miles south of Louisville or 6 miles north of Hwy. 19.

Black History

program to be held

The public is invited to the Winston County Complex Head Start Center for our Black History Program on February 29 at 9:30 a.m. A Soul Food Dinner will be served after the program.

Troop 98 Cavalry to hold a reunion

Troop 98 Cavalry will have its second reunion March 1, 2008 at the New National Guard Armory. All personnel that was ever a member of Trp A is invited to attend. Health fair to be held

The Family Center will host a free Health fair on Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Registered nurses from Sta-Home and Care Inn will have booths for cholesterol screenings, blood sugar checks, and blood pressure checks. The center plans to have other booths set up for the following: Diabetes, Rita Tanksley; Nutrition, Sandra Jackson; Gilbert's Home Health; Sta-Home Health/Hospice; Vision Screenings, Dr. Clifton's Assistants; Dental Screenings, Dr. Donald (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.); "Know Your Numbers," Eileen Tabb; and D.A.R.E./Information, JROTC Students. Complimentary packets will be given at the booths. Nutritious snacks and door prizes will be given. Please come and take advantage of this Free Health Fair.

Book Sale set

The annual Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held Thurs-Fri-Sat. March 6,7,8 at the Winston County Library. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library.

Master gardener

class to be held

The MSU Extension Services is offering an Interactive Video Master Gardener class beginning February 26 and continuing through April 3. Class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-5 p.m. There is a fee of $85 for participation in the Master Gardener program. Participants will receive 40 hours of horticultural training in various horticulture topics. Treasures in the

attic to be held

Winston Medical Center Relay for Life is having a portrait fundraiser. Treasures in the Attic will be at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home Activity room on April 4-7 to make pictures. Pictures can be ordered that day and will arrive 4 weeks later. The pictures are black and white with touches of color. For more information contact Brandi Krajewski at 779-5121.

Gospel artist to hold program in Louisville

Ivan Parker, one of America's most exciting gospel, artist, will be in concert at First Methodist Church, Louisville, April 4. Admission is $15. All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. Health fair to be held

The Winston Medical Center is sponsoring a health fair on May 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center. There will be a lot of free services provided to the public including glucose, cholestrol, BMI, Bone Density, STD/HIV, and many more things. Black history month program to be held

A Black history month program will be held Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 11:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ located at 688 Bethany Ebenezer Road in Louisville.

Head start recruiting new students

Winston County Complex Head Start Center is now recruiting three and four year old children for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year. For more information please stop by the center located at 403 Warner Avenue or call the center at 662-773-8595.

Umpires needed for WCYA

The Winston County Youth Association is now accepting applications for umpires for the upcoming baseball and softball seasons. Minimum age of applicants is 16 years old. Applications can be picked up at the WCYA office in the Louisville Coliseum, or by calling Angela at (601) 562-3238.

Black history month display at library

The Black History Theme for 2008 is "Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism". The proposed display will include Inventions by Black Inventors, a salute to local Black individuals who forged progressive race relations in Winston County and quilt and African Fabrics. The public, local schools, day care centers and Head Start are invited to view the display throughout the month of February.

Members of the Winston County Voters League and Winston County Branch NAACP are collaborating with library staff in this effort. Contact library staff regarding additional Black History programs that are planned throughout the month.

WLSM to celebrate Black History Month

Each week day morning, between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., during the month of February, WLSM (Magic 107.1) will feature African-Americans who have made and continue to make lasting contributions to our American history.

Replicas of some of the inventions mentioned will be on display at the Winston County Library, during the month of February.

Welding and computer classes to be held

Beginning and advanced welding classes, and beginning and advanced computer classes will be taught at the Winston-Louisville career and technology center (Vo-Tech) beginning in January.

Monday AA meet

New Alcoholic Anonymous Meeting (AA) starting Monday, November 26 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The group will meet once weekly Winston County Voters League Building 317 Vance Street (across from Eiland Middle School) Louisville, MS. The Winston County Voters League is wheelchair accessible and it is a no smoking meeting.

La Leche League

provides help

Pictures needed

Louisville Main Street is compiling a Pictorial Living History about Winston County. We need copies (either on CD or paper) of historical photos along with information about the pictures mailed to Preserve Winston County, P.O. Box 551, Louisville, MS 39339 or dropped off at the community house. Please include your phone number with the pictures. We will copy pictures for you at the community house if needed.
