The Black History Theme for 2008 is "Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism". The proposed display will include Inventions by Black Inventors, a salute to local Black individuals who forged progressive race relations in Winston County and quilt and African Fabrics. The public, local schools, day care centers and Head Start are invited to view the display throughout the month of February.
Members of the Winston County Voters League and Winston County Branch NAACP are collaborating with library staff in this effort. Contact library staff regarding additional Black History programs that are planned throughout the month.
WLSM to celebrate Black History Month
Each week day morning, between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., during the month of February, WLSM (Magic 107.1) will feature African-Americans who have made and continue to make lasting contributions to our American history.
Replicas of some of the inventions mentioned will be on display at the Winston County Library, during the month of February.
Winning at work and home program set
A 16-week Men's DVD study that focuses on the two areas that are central to a man's happiness: his career and his family will be held February 5- May 20, 2008 on Tuesdays beginning at 6 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Louisville. The cost is $11. This study provides a winning game plan for work and home. During the 16 weeks, men will explore new ways to better engage and enjoy their work and more successfully relate to the woman in their life.
Young Publisher's Network to hold meeting
The Young Publisher's Network will be hosting a meeting on February 5th at the Winston County Library at 4 p.m. We are welcoming all youths and adults to come and participate in the evolution of our future publications. Weight Watchers to start classes
Weight Watchers is starting a new class on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. to be held at the Winston Medical Center in the dining room. WCYA holds baseball/softball sign-up
The Winston County Youth Association announces that sign-up for the upcoming baseball and softball seasons has begun. This includes all Buddy Ball, T-Ball, boy's baseball, and girl's softball leagues. It is open to children who are age 5-14. The age cut-off date is May 1. Registration forms will be distributed through the schools, and can be picked up at the WCYA office located in the Louisville Coliseum. The deadline for registration is February 23, 2008.

Master gardener class to be held
The MS Extension Services is offering an Interactive Video Master Gardener class beginning February 26 and continuing through April 3. Class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-5 p.m. There is a fee of $85 for participation in the Master Gardener program.
