The City of Louisville recently received a $24,663 grant from the USDA Rural Development for the purchase of a fire vehicle and two police vehicles.

John Rounsaville, State Director of the USDA, presented a check to the city officials to mark the awarding of the grant.

"We are certainly glad to help small towns with funds in budget constrained times to address needs of public safety," said Rounsaville. Rounsaville added that these taxpayer funds were being put to good use and that the USDA was glad to be the conduit for the funding.

Louisville Mayor Daniel "Moe" Yarbrough complimented the USDA officials noting that Sheila Freely, area director of the agency, was a hard worker and a helpful resource to the City of Lousiville when they applied for funding and grants with the agency.

Rounsaville added that it is the partnership with local officials and leaders that makes the USDA Rural Development successful in improving rural communities whether it is through grants or low interest loans.

The USDA Rural Development - Mississippi Community Programs works with rural community lenders and individuals to offer Direct Loans, Guaranteed Loans, and Grants to help build and purchase essential community facilities and equipment in rural Mississippi according to the state website.
