From staff and press reports

By the time students reach high school, many have been pushed to make career and college choices, yet few have any experience or knowledge about their chosen career.

To help alleviate this problem and enlighten students, the Winston-Louisville Vocational and Technical Center celebrated Career and Technical Month by sponsoring a Job Shadow Day.

With the cooperation of many employers and volunteers in the area, 37 students had the opportunity to spend a day with mentors. The students were able to have hands on experience in their chosen field by participating in a normal day on the job. The majority of these students shadowed a site using actual skills from their own career classes. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 18 of the 20 fastest growing occupations within the next decade will require career and technical education. An opportunity for this training is available at the LMSD Vocational Center. The classes include technology applications, building trades, diesel mechanics, metal trades, automotive technology, forestry, allied health, cooperative education, design technology, drafting, and business and computer technology.

The Winston-Louisville Vocational and Technical Center extends a huge thank you to the following businesses and individual that participated in Job Shadow 2007.
