With two newly sworn in trustees, the Louisville Municipal School District board last Monday covered repairs to buildings and several other issues.
After swearing in Cathy Edwards, district 4 , and Claire Crowell, district 1, the trustees authorized bids for the renovations and repairs to the Fair Elementary building including repairs to the roof. The trustees also authorized bids to renovate the football bleachers. The trustees also discussed the proposal from ERG on the school districts heating systems and the possibility of placing new energy efficient systems in the schools. Superintendent Harry Kemp was set to follow up with the survey after contacting TVA about the possibility of providing a survey similar to ERG's proposal.
In other business:
The trustees set its officers elections for April 11 at 5:30 p.m during its regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
The board reviewed the planned calendar for the 2006 -07 school year.
Trustees examined several sixteenth section land issues from approving hunting and fishing lease on 5 acres to correcting several lease issues.
Trustees approved the hiring of Tate Hanna as the new head coach for Nanih Waiya. Hanna is replacing Adam Dillenger who returned to Ackerman High School.
Superintendent Harry Kemp reviewed some of the exit report comments from SACS on Eiland Middle School and reported the full report should be issued soon. Kemp noted the SACS exit report commended Eiland on its team spirit and learning environment.
The board made plans for the school board retreat in May.
Discussed getting legal guidance on preparing a policy on majority to minority transfer requests.
Kemp noted the trustees' recent award for training.
Trustees discussed creating a policy on how to handle death request that includes use of school property for visitations or services.
Trustees discussed the board moving to an epolicy system and creating almost paperless meetings.
Trustees scheduled school visits for March 23.
The trustees also entered into executive sessions to discuss several student issues.
