Former LHS standout playing weel for UM
The Ole Miss women's basketball team has jumped out to a 9-1 start so far this season.
Former Louisville High School standout Dee Forrest is playing a significant role in the Lady Rebels early season surge.
Forrest, a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward, is averaging 5.3 points and 2.6 rebounds a game for Ole Miss and has started seven of the team's 10 games.
Next up for Ole Miss is a Friday matchup with Maine in the Hurricane Classic hosted by the University of Miami (Fla.). They will play either Miami or North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
The next home game for Ole Miss is Thursday, Jan. 5 when the Lady Rebels open the Southeastern Conference schedule against Georgia.
Forrest played in 29 games as a freshman during the 2004-05 season, averaging 5.3 points and 2.1 rebounds a game. Her season high came against Grambling when she scored 19.
Her first career double-double came against Vermont when she scored 18 points and claimed 10 rebounds.

The three public schools in Winston County will be taking a couple weeks off when it comes to playing basketball games.
Nanih Waiya returns to action in the Weir Tournament Jan. 5-7, while Noxapater visits Thomastown on Jan. 6 and Louisville hosts West Point on the same night.
Noxapater's first home game in 2006 will be Jan. 10 against McAdams, while Nanih Waiya's first home game of the new year will be against Noxapater on Jan. 13.

Die-hard Mississippi State University baseball fans might have seen a
familiar face when the West Lauderdale Lady Knights visited LHS for a basketball game on Dec. 13.
The Lady Knights head girls basketball coach is Jody Hurst, who was a standout centerfielder for the MSU Bulldogs. Hurst played several years in the Detroit Tigers farm system, making it as high as AAA Toledo.
