Winston Academy's football team will hold its annual "Lift-A-Thon" Thursday and Friday in the fieldhouse at the school.
The event will be held at 3 p.m. both days, with a hamburger cookout to follow Friday's event starting at 7 p.m. Middle school athletes will participate in the event Thursday, with high school players participating on Friday.
Athletes have been garnering sponsorships for the event, with each person choosing to either donate a flat fee or a certain amount per pound lifted. Each athlete will then have a certain number of attempts to set a personal best in various lifting events, with the highest weight lifted in each category being used to calculate donations.
All money raised will be used for the Winston Academy football team.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event, as first-year head coach Steve Macke would like for all supporters of the Patriots and everyone in Louisville to come out and see the new-look Patriots as they prepare for the 2003 season opener on Aug. 22 at home against Oak Hill Academy.
For Friday night's cookout, the cost will be $2 per hamburger, with drinks also being sold separately. Everyone is invited to that event as well.
For more information on the event, contact Winston Academy and ask for the fieldhouse or Coach Macke.
