Six aim for Louisville Mayoral seat

The deadline for filing to run for local municipal elections has ended with several seeking post municipal posts.

The Louisville Mayoral seat has drawn the most interest with six persons turning in paper work to seek the office. Seeking the Mayor's seat is incumbent Daniel E. "Moe" Yarbrough, Ted Callahan, Christopher L. Crowson, William A. "Will" Hill, Brian Stewart, and Rev. Sammie Cooper.

In the Louisville Alderman-At-Large post, three candidates aim to vie for the seat incumbent Frances S. Ball, Cathy Edwards, and Larry Miller.

Alderman Ward Three post seeking office are incumbent Gwenita Mays, Keith R. Dailey, and Bessie M. Love.

Those unopposed in election bids are Judy H. McLeod in Ward Two; Richard R. Caperton in Ward One, Eugene Crosby in Ward Four and City Clerk Babs W. Fulton.

In Noxapater Mayor Tommie Gardner is unopposed with six persons seeking the five aldermen seats for the town. Brian Burrage, Nick Hensley, Jessie Hudson, Grady Suttle, Robert Wall, Jr. and Chris Wells are seeking the five aldermen posts.

The candidates listed above have all submitted paperwork to be on the ballot each candidate still must be verified by the candidates' party commissioners to meet the state, county's and city's election standards.

The general election is set for June 2. The Democratic party primaries will be held May 5. If necessary a runoff for the primaries will be held May 19.

Voter's may register for the primary elections until April 3 and for the June 2 general election by May 2 at noon.

All candidates for public office in Mississippi must file campaign finance reports in accordance with state law. These reports are mandatory. Forms are available in the city clerk's office, the Secretary of State's office or at www.sos.state.ms.us.
