Youth Crusade grows programs and attendees

A packed Unity Church on the final night of the 2009 Youth Crusade represented some of the many lives touched by the event.
"This is the best ones yet and the most organized," said Jemero Carter, one of the event's organizers.
The Youth Crusade marked its fourth annual event with crowds over 300 at its morning and evening sessions. The morning sessions were held at the First Baptist Church in Louisville with evening sessions at Unity Baptist Church of Louisville.
"First Baptist Church has been very hospitable," said Carter.
.Carter outlined that with the many classrooms available at the First Baptist Church, the group was able to better organize homerooms and tailor messages better to specific age groups.
Attendees were not only exposed to messages of worship and praise for God but classes also focused on college preparation, abstinence, and leadership.
"We aim to change their presence for a better future," said Carter.
Carter noted that the group also offered classes about self-esteem, finding purpose in life, obedience to parents and others, and several other programs. Also, as part of the event, Corey Lockett, Newlie Long, Teresa Rogers, Donyea Hargrove and R.J. Matthews delivered specific sermons addressing the youth.
"We have changed children's lives for the better," said Carter. "
Carter thanked all those who helped make the event possible. He added that all the volunteers and business donations did help make a difference for the children who attended.
The event was set by Alpha Delta Omega which Carter is the president. The group registered about 318 attendees for the three-day event this year compared to 250 last year. The event included children from pre kindergarten through 18 years of age.
Volunteers and speakers attended from around the state.
