School Board holds meeting By Joseph McCain The Winston County Journal The Louisville Municipal School Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting on Nov. 10 and covered a bevy of items. One of the first items addressed on the Nov. 10 agenda was a public participation by Marjorie Ronyak and wanted to further appeal her and three other families' request for attendance at Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. Ronyak noted that while they were Noxubee County residents that the closest school to their residence was Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. The board heard Ronyak's request but took no action. Ronyak noted they may seek legal action to address the matter further. In other matters, the trustees: ¥ Discussed the use of Professional Development Funds to pay JBHM consultants to help with Algebra I and English II studies. ¥ Discussed travel pay for administrators to attend away football games as required by the Mississippi High School Athletics Association. ¥ Discussed payments for investigation services used to verify residences for a few families that had attended Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. ¥ Discussed payments to Adam and Reese, the board attorneys, for work on a variety of district items such as the unitary status. ¥ Discussed $25,000 in funds used to prepare Sixteen Section land for reforestation. Hal Overstreet, Sixteen Section land manager, at request of board member, Jerry Webb, reviewed the full breakdown of all the cost and explained the district had received a good price for the amount of acreage and comparative pricing. ¥ Discussed the transfer of funds to reap a better interest rate for the upcoming year. ¥ Business manager Tracy Luke explained the district had received about 23 percent of the expected collections and spent about 30 of projected expenses which was in line with the budget. ¥ Discussed transfer of $500,000 into the general fund from Sixteen Section interest to " soften the blow" of the 5 percent of state cuts. ¥ Approved the renewal of LMSD contract with the Mississippi School Board Worker's Compensation Trust. ¥ Approved receipt of GPS and Mapping equipment for the Winston County Vocational provided by the University of Mississippi. The vocational center will use the donation to help the UM project map local areas. ¥ Approved to hire JBHM to do a study on LMSD that will include an enrollment evaluation, a facilities assessment, and other items. Superintendent Bill Wade noted that the study was need in order to show a case to the state and federal governments the need for the districts fund balances and need for federal funds to address the needs of the district. ¥ Discussed Sixteen Section items including a letter from the board of supervisors rejecting three leases. Overstreet noted that he would provide the requested information by the supervisors along with a letter from the school board's attorney. ¥ Noted that the construction should be winding down and hopefully completed by the end of the Thanksgiving holidays. The next meeting for the LMSD trustees is set for Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
