Head Start awareness celebrated
For over 40 years, The Winston County Head Start Complex has provided an environment for the area's preschool-aged children and their families to get an early start on education.
On Thursday, Oct. 29 the facility staff, students, supporters and families help celebrate Head Start Awareness Month this year. Among those speaking to the large crowd was Louisville Mayor Will Hill.
"It maybe a cloudy day, but you children sure can brighten everything up," said Mayor Hill after the children sang for the crowd. Hill also presented a proclamation recognizing the head start for its work educating the children.
Mattie Cooper, head start regional director, recognized all the attendees at the program and thanked all for supporting the children in the program.
"We are grateful for your support," said Cooper.
The program closed with releasing of the balloons by the children. The program was headed up by Sonja Cooper who served as Mistress of Ceremonies with staff members Patty Curtis and Irene Smith also addressing the crowd.
